Toilet paper holder, 230 × 120 × 120(H)mm, borosilicate
Created for the exhibition Under / Over at Marta LA, the Boro Toilet Paper Holder explores material transformation and the boundaries between craft and design. Inspired by the traditional gestures of a blacksmith shaping steel, the piece reinterprets this industrial process through an unexpected material: borosilicate glass. Instead of forging metal through heat and force, the strength of steel is replaced with the fragility and transparency of glass—translating an act of compression and deformation into something that feels fluid yet frozen in time. The result is an object that appears as though liquid motion has been solidified, its form capturing the dynamic movement of molten glass as it cools. Both sculptural and functional, the Boro toilet paper holder challenges perceptions of materiality and permanence. By substituting metal with glass, it transforms an everyday object into a poetic reflection on craft, gesture, and the delicate balance between solidity and fragility.
